Due to me being lazy & not checking the rear sprocket bolts the right way. With a torque wrench & not paying attension to detail to make sure that I had checked ALL THE BOLTS. I lost a rear hub. I now have a new hub on the way & will have it laced up soon, But I need to replace the chain & sprocket, it was just about time to do it anyway! I would like to know your thought's on which chain & sprockets. Remmeber this is going on my KTM 525SX. O-ring or x-ring chain & what brand ? which will last the longest on the torque monster ? Which kind of sprocket ? Aluminum, carbon steel, crome moly or stainless steel ?

I bet you'll get all kinda responses to this question. Probably about like asking a man if they like boxers or briefs? ANYWAY.... On my KDX I run the DID X-ring chain and Primary Drive steel sprockets. So far, I'm happy with both. If I wanted to spend the extra money, I think I would have liked to try the Ironman sprockets. Of course...my "chick" bike is less than half the displacement of yours...

I use a sunstar Z-sprocket that is steel and the teeth are off set from each other. It looks different when you see it but I have over 200 miles on mine of hard woods and mud riding and it still looks brand new.I also like it because it wasn't exspensive about 35.00.I also use a R.K. x-ring chain.

i would like to pass this on to ya.....i just replaced a friends chain and sprockets for him.....we used the new(er) d.i.d. atv type chain. we were very impressed with it's looks....this is one tuff looking chain...it is a x'ring...x'rings are supposed to seal better and have a longer life over o'ring type. also used the steel sprockets from rocky mountain. if i were riding a big 4 stroke...this would be my choices. i think it's tensile strength was 8500 psi....and it has gold side plates....rocky mountain prices were very good too.

Do you ride MX only on the 525? I'd go with a good Roller chain (DID or whatever) in gold, like this one --> DID MX Series Racing Chain Sprockets... IMOP, just pick some and go... Steel seems to be good, but I like my sprockets specialists quite a bit... but I've not used anything else besides stock.

I say DID X-ring or O-ring chain or Sidewinder chain. For a torque machine, I would recommend stainless steel sprocket or Ti-Moly. I'm sure there are other good ones out there, but these are the ones I would feel comfortable with personally. I'm sure Jay will be here shortly to give some input also.

I hate boxer briefs, boxers all the way baby! Anyway, i say you "TRY" primary drive steel sprockets because they're soo cheap, and get a X-Ring chain for sure dude! They all have the highest tensile strength (all the X-rings that is) over the other chain types. (that's actually just a guess).

Hey Howard! You had better blue loc tite those new sprocket bolts on that Katoom, cause they'll come loose in one ride. I got lucky and caught mine before I ruined a hub. I like the Moose front and rear(aluminum) sprockets with a DID ERT Gold chain. oh yeah Char boxer briefs here too Last edited by jaswhitt393; 04-19-2004 at 03:28 PM.
