Not sure on this but I think Canadian emission standards are the same as the rest of North America excepting of course California. I do know that some Hondas sold in Canada come with Pirelli tires, other than that I am not aware of any differences.

Emissions differences, on a dirt bike?

Uh, yeah. Tell him to share a bit of whatever he's smoking too.

As far as I know, the only differences is that the Canuck bikes might have a different OE tire since those are country-specific contracts. You also won't be able to get race contingency money on it since American Honda won't pay on a Canuck bike.

Everything on Canadian bikes is the exact same as on the American bikes. Jetting, suspension, etc. Its all the same spec. The only difference is the VIN numbers. American Honda will not recognize a Canadian VIN, it'll be like it doesnt even exist.

Talking Re: canadian bikes

He wants you to buy from him so he'll tell you anything. I've bought several bikes from Canada (via motorcycle brokers .com) , even called American Honda and asked them about the differences.....sometimes they put different tires on and that's about it. You do have to pay sales tax when you go to register the bike so keep that in mind. I like to support the local daler when I can but when they aren't even in the same ball park as far as price it's a no brainer. Sometimes you can swing a deal with the dealer and get a major parts discount if you buy the bike from him. Try and reason with him and see if he can meet you half way, if he really wants you to buy from him he might be willling to make a few consessions. If he's really a jerk......well I guess it's HELLO MOTORCYCLE BROKERS.COM!

Yeah, and dont forget the VIN numbers will not be recognized by American Honda dealers.

That's OK, as "CR250R" has gotten me every part I've ever needed. No need for the VIN.

By the time you think about it you wont be saving all that much on the bike. You will have to more than likely drive into Portland to pick it up, pay for the shipping, all said and down you might only save a couple hundred. Whereas if you went to a dealer.........one other than your local dealer you might be able to get a deal on the bike and future parts.

I know that they have smoken deals on bikes, but I would much rather give my money to my community and show support to my dealer than give it online (for a bike that is) When it comes to parts that is a different story.

What's he's really talking about is that Canadian dirtbikes do not meet US emissions requirements. Does that mean that they are different than the stuff we get in the US? No, it's the exact same bike. What it comes down to is the Vin numbers being recognize as a US vehicle, and the online bikes being recognized as a canadian bike.

I've gotta tell you that I'd definately go for the bike online. This way the bike come partially disassembled and you can just grease all those bearings befor you put the wheels and forks in. And even if you only saved a couple hundered bucks you can get a new pipe, or something else for your bike.

The Canuck bikes are a LOT cheaper than US MSRP.

Also, I'm not crazy about the idea of a dealer putting together my new dirt bike.

Why not?

I worked at a cycle shop in high school. When we put together a new YZ, the mechanic "test rode" it. That ride consisted of wheelies up and down the parking lot for five minutes.

Besides, opening that big box is like being a little kid at Christmas!

I'm just saying, there IS a difference. To an American Honda dealer your CR250R doesn't exist if you bought your bike in Canada. Thats all I'm saying.

But that difference is meaningless.

My 2002 turned out to have a Canadian MSO (I bought it from a guy in Michigan). The fact that it's Canadian means absolutely nothing. It's 100% the same bike as a US import machine (I don't even consider tires since they are a disposable item). When I get parts at a Honda dealer, I don't tell them my VIN, I tell them "2002 CR250R" and I get exactly what I need. They don't refuse to sell me parts because the bike is Canadian and not a US model. If I took it in for service, they wouldn't refuse to work on it because it was Canadian either (unless they're idiots).

The one and only case it would matter is if you race it and try and collect Honda contingency money. American Honda won't pay on a Canadian bike. Beyond that, it doesn't matter. There's no warranty at all on dirt bikes so you're not losing anything on that front (any warranty work you get on a dirt bike is dealer charity or Honda fixing a defect to prevent a "fit for marketability" lawsuit).
