Moto Can you use starting fluid on a dirt bike?

I am confused about whether you can use starting fluid on a dirt bike and if yes then how long you can use it to run, and what are the steps of using a starting fluid in a proper manner.

I use it all the time to determine if there is a fuel delivery issue with a bike I'm buying to fix/flip. I do not run the bike on it; one spray and if it starts up, then I tear into the carb/injection system.
