Default Blowin' Stuff UP!!!!!

I shoot quite a bit and the other day at a private range. We decided to employ some homemade (legal) explosives. Shooting them with the .308 is just plain fun. We have a shot up piece of 24" circle armor plate, so the explosive charge went under it. Check out the results....

Sweet. I am guessing about 40' of air. Too much fun.

That's cool, what did you use for the explosive charge?

"homemade"

I shoot a DSA SA58 .308 FAL. Shoots really well, makes a big hole, and when you hit something, it stays shot. A little heavy compared to the poodle shooter .223 crowd, though.

My 3-gun shotgun as well. I call her the ugly b@#$%. Got her from a guy who took it to New Orleans after Katrina. Was, and still is, rusty and gross. Torched the top rib off (did not repaint) and put on a set of ghost rings. Added the side saddle and polished the inside for smoother action. Shoots well.

It's a great "hobby'' you should hop right in. With James there in the neighborhood you've got a handy, knowledgeable expert at your disposal. What more could you ask for?

shooting sure it fun. I didn't shoot competitively until last year. 3-gun shooting is simply the coolest. Everyone should run a shoot-house stage in the dark, flashlight only hammering .308 rounds at close range. Sweet.

The socialist powers the be here in California hate dirtbikes and want to get rid of them. Owning that 308 in the picture would send you to prison.

Gowd I have to get out of here.

I could never see what the hype and interest about guns and shooting was about.

Well a mate of mine took me shooting at his uncle's property and I love it! Never shot a gun before until last Thursday. Only got to shoot scoped 22's and a double shotgun but it was awesome!

He showed me how the shotgun goes first and wanted me to have a go but after seeing him shoot it I thought not yet. Bit skeered! We got some coke bottles and stuck them into the ground upside down and put some shotgun shells on top to shoot at. At first I couldn't really hit the shell but could hit the bottle once every full magazine (5).
By the end we were using clumps of dried dirt on top of the bottles and I hitting them. I could finally hit the dirt with 1-2 shots. I was proud. We were only 38 metres away and the 22's were scoped so it wasn't hard but it was a start.

I finally was talked into taking a shot at the double barrell. James and his family use it for clay target shooting. I was wary of the recoil and that's what I was worried about! I took aim at a still standing bottle but wasn't thinking about hitting it but holding the butt tightly against my shoulder. The recoil wasn't as bad as I thought and was assured that "it was nothing" compared to bigger guns.

Don't mean to hijack your thread, James, but that's my first shooting story and I can no appreciate the gun talk/shooting/hunting threads.

Since then I have thought about getting a gun but am unsure what to get and whether I would get into target shooting or just plinking at our old place.

Wow is right.

Along these lines, and quite possibly a LOT easier to come by is the Beretta Extrema2

Hey James,

Cool video. I noticed one of your weapons, the non shotgun. Is that the I shoot a DSA SA58 .308 FAL.? I sort of looks like an M1 A1, except...... better. If so, I would like to get one. If you have a line on one - let me know and send me a PM with a price range.

Thanks for sharing....... Your Sir are an ANIMAL. I am glad I like animals!

The DSA Sa58 comes from D S Arms.

There are several versions of this gun from DSA. Mine is the standard rifle, but they make it in a carbine, folding stock, heavy barrel, and other options.

I got mine from GunBroker.com Online Gun Auction through an individual. Gun is awesome. I re-zeroed my scope and from a supported rest last weekend shooting prone, I shot a couple of 2.5" groups. Pretty good for a battle rifle.

The M1A or M14 is a different animal. A battle rifle, but much more accurate than the FAL, just not quite a durable I don't think. Both are fine weapons. I went with the FN since it is pretty unique and really really durable. There are a bunch of re-furbished FAL's out there, but some of them are really ratty. DSA usually sells them for about $1500+ I paid $1250 for mine.
