ok, i have a cousin thats 15. We took him out riding a few weeks ago to learn on my chicks blaster. He hopped on it and within 10 minutes he was blasting through the gears. We took him out on some trails and man was i impressed. He barreled over big rocks, climbed some small hills, rode through the sand and competely impressed me. Only problems i saw was a lack of clutch control ( but he's brand new...) also saw that he panics at times and grabs front and rear brakes (happened twice total) once downhill.... other then that extremely impressive. So now it's time for him to pick out a bike. What should be recommended? I thought of a cr125. Has the look and feel of a big bike but with a small motor. He's about 5' 9" and maybe 160 lbs. whats your opinion. it will be for desert riding with us. i also thought of a 4 stroke 250 but i think that may be too much for a brand new rider....

a 250f would be a MUCH better choice for a new rider then a 125... as i hear 250f's are easyer too ride.
as you said, he is not very good with a clutch, 125's take a butt load of cutch fethering, im sure even more in the sand!
if he is brand new, mabey look into a larger used ttr and upgrade him after he is used to bikes..

mabey have you thought.. mabey get him a BIG boys bike!! (250 pinger) ?

He'll learn quickly, so I wouldn't be too concerned about getting him a "beginner" bike. My first bike was my YZ250, and I did fine. Get him a 250F.
