Default Big Maico (Howard Lobel) down yesterday at Rio Bravo

I just got off the phone with Howard Lobel. He crashed at Rio yesterday and is currently in Houston NW Medical Center with L2 and L4 fractures, a broken transverse process and some disc damage. He has full movement of all limbs so they don't think there is any permanent damage. He is currently waiting on a neurologist consult and will probably be in a brace for a couple of months. He's in good spirits (like always) but in some pain. If you want to give him a call, it's 281 - 716 - 1621.

I don't know Howard but wish him all the best, hope he keeps riding.
From what I've seen of that track from various vids it appears to be a great vintage type track.
Do you know how it happened?

Great to hear from you again Dave, but I'm sure sorry to hear that Howard is hurt! I'll give him a jingle later today to see how he is.

I agree Chase.
Every time I talk with “H” he’s in a good mood. Even with a broken back he’s still a crack-up (pun intended).
Donna is in need of prayer too. She’s laid up with another food surgery plus taking care of “H”.
Prayers for the LaBell household.

Gang I'm @ home now since 5/5. Trying to adjust to circumstances & all the chaos. Not only are we dealing with my broken back we have donna' s second foot surgery. Our dog had bladder surgery- urgently but now is on road to recovery. As most of you know I'm type of person not to sit still but. Ow forced to & it's driving me crazy. Went to neurosurgeon yesterday & he said I had crushed L2 vertebrae in my back so I will likely be in this back brace for 90 days. The spine process of L4 are broken but dr says no worries- he's concerned about L2. Might be able to return to work in 2 months but that will be determined after ct scan & md visit first part of June. Thanks for all of the prayers & well wishes.much appreciated!

Howard

Char,

I was on the day track!

From what I remember I landed hard on the bridge jump & whiskey throttle the 450. Then I hit the ground really hard, it wasen' t the ground that I hit it was a tree!

Danny called me & told that one of the guys that works at Rio saw the whole thing, I'll have to ask him to tell me what he saw!

Wow. I hate to hear that. Glad it's not worse.

Did you get someone to cut the yard? Let me know if not, I can come over tomorrow and do it...if it's dry enough.

Howard - I was sorry to hear the news, but it was good to speak with you the other night. Please keep me posted on your PROGRESS. You usually ride so darn careful. Not expecting to hear of your being injured so significantly. Let me know if you need assistance. Ask Donna to take it easy.

You know H you can always start riding the roads with an ole guy like me. The ole doesn't deal with injuries as easily as it did. Thinking of you Bro.

Your Bud,
Mike B.

I like that jump, but you are right. If you come up short there isn't much room between the landing and the bowl turn!
