After I wrote "twin" I thought, "I know what he's going to say".
To get back on topic - A neighbor of mine did get lucky and find a complete running Metisse for a fraction of what is might be worth.

You know where this is going.....

He filled the tank and rode it every day as he was lining up nickel platers and painters, and running down a couple odd parts. I liked just hearing that thing running around town.
When his tank was about empty he noticed a small spot of fuel on the garage floor.
Then a couple days later he noticed that the spot would not evaporate. Then the bike would not start.
Then the engine was hydraulically locked up, (full of gas)
It turned out that the fiberglass tank had been attacked by the modern fuel, softening the whole inside of the tank. The petcock fitting threads began to leak and the gummy goo kept the float needle from sealing.
Being the thoughtful neighbor that I am, I offered to give him the $1200 he paid for the bike when it was running good.
I'm not holding my breath but the bike is getting buried deeper and deeper in his garage.
