I'm in the market now for some new bars, and right now I'm stuck between the renthal twinwalls, or the protaper evo bars. What bars are you running and what do you like about them. Also what are some of the other bars you have tried before that I didn't mention.

I run Pro Taper SE bars, and they work great for me!

Did they require a bigger clamp? I'm just curious because this stuff is starting to get expensive, twinwalls $100 protaper big bar clamps $32 New grips donuts and grip glue $25. I think I can get the bars for $50 on ebay though so that brings it down some.

No, they don't require bigger clamps because they aren't big bars. The "SE" in ProTaper SE stands for "Seven-Eighths", referring to the 7/8" diameter of the bar. I have some big bar clamps, but I haven't put them on my bike because they relocate the bar mounting position upwards by 3/4" and that's just too much for me. I like my bars low. So, unless and until I want to upgrade my entire triple clamp, it's standard bars for me. The ProTapers work well and look great doing it! Good prices on them at Rocky Mountian: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I just ordered me some new 1 1/8" clamps and the Renthal twinwalls. I didn't have to get new triple clamps. I saw the universal bar mounting kit, that raises the height 3/4", but I didn't want that either. They fit on top of your existing bar clamps The renthal handlebar clamp kits fits in the stock triple clamp. I got the rubber mounted ones. Anyway... since I cant stop crashing, I need the heavy duty stuff. I am so sick of replacing my bars! |

Lol well I think kawasakis have the removeable clamps, yamaha's stock top tripple clamp has the bar mounts cast right on to it. Anyways, I went with the twinwalls, renthal kevlar grips, and the protaper mounts, after a couple of paychecks I'm going to get some RG3 tripples to lower the bars back down. I like my bars up a little higher anyways, I'm kinda tall and I like to be able to stand and not have to bend over to reach the bars, I already have the SDG tall seat and really like it.

As YZalltheway mentioned, the YZs don't have removable bar mounts, as they're cast into the upper triple clamp. Going to a big bar means one of two things for my bike: a whole new triple clamp or the universal bar mounts. I bought the universal bar mounts because they don't cost much and I just wanted to see how they looked. I never even took them out of the package. That 3/4" is a deal breaker. Some day I will probably buy a new upper clamp and put on a big bar, but at the moment there are other parts I'd rather spend my money on, so the clamp/bar thing is going to have to wait. |

I'm with Bill! Nothing beats "cold beer and hot wom....." yea, I just saw that to.. DUH!! I like ProTapers SE also. I don't have a set yet, but soon will. A friend of mine has them on his 450r and another on his 250f. They feel great. Very little flex, strong, and standard size is a major MAJOR plus!!!

I do like Renthal in the standard type, YZ bend (the number escapes me right now but I'll wager someone here knows it.) Same for the Renthal soft full diamond grips for me. Bill

Yep I think the only reason I went with the Twinwalls was beacause of their strength, I think they should probably outlast the bike, since I'm typically not one to dump it in the corners. I also got the seller to throw in some barmounts for 20 and got the bars for 50, so my grand total for bars grips and 1 1/8 mounts was $107. Not bad considering Twinwalls usually go for around $100 by themselves.

I am too damn slow to worry about bending bars if I crash, which is a regular thing for my old butt. The regular bars et me by. I have a set of renthals and a set of stock I swap out. Bill
