Default An Assessment of ATM

From time to time I am involved in reviews, so I thought the ATM community might find it helpful to get a fairly new member's initial and sustained impressions of ATM:

1. Initial Greetings. You would not believe how welcome the administrators and others made me feel when I ventured to post my very first question. That simple phrase "Welcome to ATM and feel free to post" takes a great deal of anxiety away from someone when they feel like they are walking into a room full of strangers.

2. Strong Family Atmosphere. I do not mean that everyone here has children. But the initial warm greetings have been backed in my observations by respect and friendship among members. Do opinions vary? You bet. Do emotions sometimes run high? Yes (particularly if someone insults a KTM ). But this is a healthy part of family life and the people who stay at this site always reinforce their respect for one another at some point in the dialogue. I looked at other sites and even joined them, but when I saw this element lacking, I realized life already has enough conflict without purposely bathing in it in an online forum. I have also looked at flame forums, and personally am delighted that they are not at ATM.

3. Helpful Moderators. I have observed the moderators are fleet-of-foot in noticing when something should be archived in the KB, and are infinitely patient in dealing with new-comer questions on how to navigate the site, as well as a host of other things behind the scenes. Thanks for your work and fun personalities!

4. A Wide Range of People. It is fascinating how we can have such a diverse population of people here all drawn together by their love of dirt bike riding. We have women, men, elderly and young from so many different regions and with so many different occupations and backgrounds. And of course, this is a strength--if you have a question about something, someone out there will have a correct answer. Oh, I have been tempted to find out what political persuasion (if any) some of you are, but to be honest, I would rather not know.

Well, those are my observations. At this point I really don't see any major weaknesses (yea, who wouldn't want online tech manuals to pull up and reference, as well as equipment and supplies at wholesale prices drop-shipped to your house--but we can keep dreaming). I do wish we were all closer so we could meet one another and ride together. I think many of us have more in common than just motorcycles (I speak to those husbands and fathers out there who love their families more than life itself

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Hey D. Cox.......you forgot grandpas. J/K

You are spot on with your post.
I post on about 6 sites and this is the best. My other favorite site is Dist. 37 because that is where my roots are (40 years worth).

Not sure how the flaming is controlled but the members do a lot and that along with moderators who do a killer job. Also a boss who has common sense. That is why this site is what it is.

Having said that, thanks for your timely post.

I agree with everything said. There are only two things i would like to see change.

For those of us who are a bit challenged in the spelling department,, a spell checker.

Very active threads- maybe people could remember to start their response by addressing the person they are responding to help the reading flow a bit better. Sometimes it gets a bit confusing.

ATM is a great site non the less !!! Thanks

Less than a year ago I was getting ready to switch from quads to bikes and was searching the internet for tips/advice on which bike to get. I posted on a few forums looking for answers, but it was only here on ATM that I received a flood of "welcomes" and thoughtful, expert responses. Obviously I became addicted overnight and haven't left since

Thanks DCox for the review. As Ima said, we hope to see you here for a long time.

The GMB race /weekend absolutely shows in person what this site and the people here are all about. Anyone that can make it...be there.
