Hey guys, New here. Looks like a great place. I am contemplating a trade and need some advice/input to see if its a good route to go. I used to be in the dirt bike scene. I've had CR250Rs, YZ125s. There gone..I then went and grabbed a new 2006 400ex ATV. So I am the first and only owner. I bought it as a left over in 2007. It is stock except for a Motoworks SR-4 Slip on. I have taken very well care of it..regular valve adjustments, oil changes, etc. I really like it but here lately I have been thinking about getting back into Dirt Bikes. I had an 05 Yamaha YZF-F6 Super sport bike that i rode for a couple years but recently sold it. I have a guy that wants to see about trading his 2004 Honda CRF250R for my 2006 400ex. So I was kinda wanting some feedback on the 04 CRF250s. I have not personally seen it yet..just pictures. He says its all stock except for Renthal bars, new sprockets and X-ring chain, new titanium intake valves, handguards. The average value of the 04 CRF250R is running about 1000 bucks lower than my 400ex. So I was thinking if I go look at it and it checks out I might still have to have some money on top of the trade. So the question is. Do you guys think this could be a worthwhile trade? I am 165pounds so the 250F should have plenty. I have rode a 450F and it was insane. If its worthwhile you think I should get some money on top of it? If so around how much? Any known problems with the 04s? TIA for any help.

Hmm... well i used to have a 2000 400ex bored out to440 by duncan racing, cams, duncan fat boy 4 exahust, rims, K&N power up kit, extended a-arms and axle, elka suspension..... needless to say it was a bad a$$ quad. Well in 2003 I baught my yz250f, long story short I NEVER rode my qaud again and ended up selling it way cheaper then it was worth and paid of my loan with it. and I have never looked back, but..... if you can get a few extra bucks of the trade then I say go for it....

If I was in your position I would hold off and get a newer 250f. 2004 was the first year for the red 250f's and did have some valve troubles. If it's in good condition and being looked after I would ask for the CRF +$1200 for your EX. Others with a better idea should chime in soon

Thanks for the advice guys. I researched the 04 CRF250Rs and the more I looked into them the more I seen like aus_rider said..they had some valve problems as well as cylinder issues. Seems like quite a few 04 CRF250 owners had there engines grenade on them. I am not gonna gamble on that so I am gonna hold off. Seems the 06 and 07s are good.
