Default 1998 cr250 500 conversion

Hi, I have a 2000 CR500, that sits on a shelf, just to look at , but I also have a 1998cr250, and a 1998 cr500engine that I would like to put in the 250 frame
I am a licenced bike mechanic, but need some ideas if anyone has done this before, and what is required to do it, accordind to measurments, it looks like a pretty simple mod
thank you

of course it's been done! look at Service Honda's CR 500AF. Not sure what year cr 250 frame/500 engine but that's what their 500AF is. I'm not sure what all is required to do this, but it is doable! custom motormounts for sure, and you would need to figure how you are going to do your intake and be sure you get the exhaust routed out right. Not sure if there's anyone on the board that has done it before, but i do know we have a 500AF lover. maybe he will chime in

Go to bannedcr500riders.com forum. It is a very helpful site with plans to do the conversion and lots of helpful guys. There is also a guy named "shanman" I believe that makes the few brackets needed to do the swap. The first gen af fram 97-99 is by far the easiest to do. The only modification you have to do to the frame itself is cut out the "x" in the front of the frame and cut off the motor mounts. You can either fabricate new motor mounts your self or buy custom made ones from the user I just mentioned. Mods will also have to be made with the airbox and exhaust brackets. Overall a fairly easy project and BY FAR the easiest of the AF conversions. There is also a guy on Ebay that sells a engine jig that will help out a ton when mocking up and welding motor mounts. The rear motormount/swingarm bolt should be a direct fit if you have a 89-01 motor, but I may be a little off. Hope that helps. Post pics of your progress if you decide to do it. Always cool to see the transformation.

Chris
