Default 03' CRF450 backfiring?

I rode a 2003 CRF450 at my dealer and when I shifted into second it backfired a little bit.........It may have been my riding or could it be something more serious?

Most likely just jetting, that would be easily fixed.

You might also look for an air leak, that can cause popping as well.

Funny when I opened this thread, I thought it said backflipping a 450. lol.

Greetings AKColby,

First off, WELCOME to ATM! You and I ride the same bike [you are probably faster than me] and they are a handfull. As was said earlier the backfire is most likely jetting. Once you get er lined out - HANG ON! The 2003 YZ450F have immediate and never ending throttle response. I put a Thunder Alley pipe on mine - incredible results!

Please be careful on your YZ450 and enjoy the GREAT folks on ATM!

Regards,

Michael Berg

I have not bought it yet but should I tell them to fix it?Right now this particular dealer would do anything to sell a bike....They want 4200 out the door, and throw in an air filter a few oil filters and maybe an exhaust, I don't know what I should do...

Either have him look at it, or perhaps get a discount out the door for the issue then come on here and we can point you in the right direction with jetting etc.

Well getting a 2006 instead sounds like a fair compromise.
