Splendora 7/1 - a few pics

We were supposed to meet up with a couple other ATM'ers today to ride at Splendora, but Howard and Jason couldn't make it. It had rained pretty good this morning and we weren't even sure the track would be rideable. We showed up a little after 10 am and were the first ones there. The guy at the gate says that it's a little wet and suggests we walk the track first to see if we want to ride. So we did..and a little wet was an understatement. It was pretty sloppy, but we figured we'd give it a try anyway.

While we were unloading another guy showed up. He had driven an hour and said he was riding regardless. Well then, I guess we had to ride after that. I was the second one out there and fought my bike all the way around the track...all four laps. Man, I pulled in so wore out. A quick drink of water and I headed back out with Daniel. So...we both fought our way around the track. It was definitely sloppy and I wondered what the heck we were doing riding in this mess.

Anna & John decided they wanted to ride around the pits, so they suited up. I have to say, once again, that watching my kids ride is just so cool. They made a short loop and just ran it over and over again. Both of them improved so much in their cornering today. I realize the pics won't do it justice, but John had his little ttr would up pretty good coming out of the corner. He crashed quite a few times, but just hopped right back on. Well, until the last crash, he came through the corner and got on the gas. The rear of the bike slid around and then caught and he highsided it. He cried this time and decided he'd had enough. He rode lots today though. Anna worked on downshifting for the corners and grabbing another gear on the small straights. She's been a little timid with the two stroke, I think the hit scares her, but today she was revving it pretty good. Again...proud mom!

A little later on a few more bikes showed up. I'd say there were no more than ten of us out there today though. The track dried out some as the day went on..in fact, it just got better and better. By the time we left at 4pm, it was SWEET. For me it ranked right up there with the best I've seen it.

Daniel and I had to take turns riding so we could get some pics. LOL He's definitely improving and I know it won't be long until I can't keep him in sight.



I thought this was a great view of the triple stepup and the run up to it..


And lastly..me. I cleared a couple jumps I've not done before. It's a pretty cool feeling to accomplish something like that. Makes riding just that much more fun. As soon as I can clear the table before the stepup cleanly, I'll be ready to work on tripling it.



And doubling the stepup...


The bikes were super muddy...but ya know, it was SO worth it. We had a great day!

Don't say that Tracy... I was hoping you'd slow down enough for me so we could do the triple side by side. You know...maybe this time someone will get video of it and actually post it up...

We could do that, it would be sweet pic and/or video

Don't worry about a thing. This really isn't a race at all. It's a time of reflection and a time to honor those who rode. You won't believe the camaraderie. While a few folks will have fun dicing it up, it's still a laid back atmosphere all the way. You won't be in anyone's way.

Like Jedi said, don't worry about it. The GMB is an opportunity to honor Garrett's memory as well as others who have passed on. It's also a chance to meet up and hang out with friends. The riding is simply icing on the cake.

Just make sure the "Maybe" does not enter your thoughts once you've made the decision to clear that step-up. Me and my knee can attest that you don't fair well when you're not 100% committed on every lap
