This past weekend was round 8 of our Oklahoma Cross Country Racing Association series. It was at Cooperland Raceway, built buy the great Guy Cooper. The entire motocross track was part of the cross country course and it was very cool to see so many "A" riders wuss out on that part of the course. By no means did I clear every jump on the track but I was surprised at the A riders not clearing many of the jumps I went for. Much rain had just fallen on the area,
but with a little prep, things were looking good.
As for the actual racing, I got a dead-last start. The trusty CRF fired up on the first kick but I stalled it. About 10 kicks later, I took off after the rest of my class. I worked my way up to 15th during the first lap and found myself in 12th after lap two. I ran a pretty decent lap on lap three other than crashing and losing 4 of the 5 positions that I had picked up. This put me in 11th. By lap 4, I was easily sitting on a top 10 but had my worst crash of the day. It didn't take my long to get back up and going but I was definitely hurting. If the electronic scoring was working correctly, I wound up 11th. We'll see when they post the results. As usual, the 90 minute race was hard but finding the ground more than once just adds to the fatigue. My cheek is cut, my thumb is cut and swollen, I have a huge bruise on my left shoulder, and I was soooooo glad to see the checkered flag! This is about 3 minutes after I pulled into the pits.
Batman Bailey and rbm33 usually have a terrific battle in the +40 expert class but Batman lost his front brakes and struggled through the race with rear brakes only. We had a GREAT weekend and I'm leaving some good stuff out but I don't want to get boring here.
BTW, it was HOT!!!!
