A group of us had a great time racing the Old As Dirt hare scramble this weekend. It was a killer course and a really well organized event.

Which direction from Okee do they have that race? My folks have a place on the NW corner of the lake. Have you ever checked out the junk yard in town? I went there once trying to buy bikes. Rows and rows of stuff all rotten!

There was a huge turnout; I couldn't begin to guess how many riders showed up. Just about every row except for vintage was full.

Weather was great with low humidity and cool temps. Actually the weather fooled some (read me) into allowing themselves to become dehydrated without really feeling it until the cramps hit.

This one was about 9 miles west of 441, south of SR70 off 196th Terrace. I can't remember the name of the landowner, but he's got a nice piece of property.

Yup, been by that junk yard many times, but never stopped. He has a bit of just about everything. Lately he's been cleaning up the stuff out by the road.

This weekend we are going to L-Cross just to ride, which is on the W/NW side of the lake a few miles south of Buckhead Ridge. There are several races in the Okeechobee area each year, and there are at least two public MX tracks + HS loops in the area as well.

Shoot. The area all looked pretty flat when I was there. Didn't realise it had some hot spots. I was around the Lakeport area.

L-Cross is between Lakeport and Buckhead Ridge. That's where we are camping and riding this weekend.

That's a new BMW 450 on the right in the last pic. I don't know if it was bike or rider, but the handling appeared to leave a lot to be desired.

The C is for slow in my case

Actually the letters are indications of rider levels. I just moved up a class this year and started in SS-C, but my lap times were in the range of the SS-B riders for this race. In C you have many more rows in front of you so you run into more traffic. I probably should have started in B. They allow you to start wherever you feel you can compete, but once you commit to a class you have to earn advancement to the next one.

White plates, no letter = beginner, all ages 16 & up

C = novice

B = average

A = advanced

AA = Pro Am

In FTR the color of your plate indicates your age class and the letter indicates your level within the class. My white plates give my age away,45-50/super senior class. The red plates are veteran/35-40, Green plates are senior/40-45, and the yellow plate on my buddy's KTM I believe is open 250cc+ ages 16-35. There is a slew of color/letter combinations. I think we had 10 or 11 rows in my race Sunday AM, with each row being a different class.

As an old fart starting in a new class I'm pretty content riding as a C rider, I just don't have the clout of having an A or B on my plates. Of course the possibilty of AA is long gone for this old codger.
