Ok...third practice. I'd best get this done now.

Like Jedi said, we opted to take off with the faster guys and let them get around us this time, rather than being caught up with all the squids. It's still hard to believe we weren't the slowest ones out there. I didn't really know what to expect, I guess I thought everyone would be haulin the mail.

Oh wait, let me back up... right before we went out, Hersh asked if I wanted a warm up lap first before he paced me over the leap. I told him I wanted to do it first lap. Apparently I was feeling my oats. He was kind of like, "alright". I really had planned on doing it first lap, but there were about five other bikes around me and I didn't feel comfortable going for it then. See, this is where the really cool part about Hersh shines through. This guy is fast, WAY faster than I am. He looks back and sees I don't double it and he waits so he can ride another lap with me. How cool is that? Second time around, I go wide in the corner in second and grab third coming out. From there it was just a matter of pinning the throttle. If you knew me at all, you'd know that is SO unnatural to me. If anything, I have a bad habit of backing off. Not this time though, and I knew as soon as I left the lip that I had it. There was no doubt in my mind. I just couldn't resist giving out a little woo-hoo as I was flying through the air. I landed it cleanly and I could tell that Hersh was excited for me. I can't even tell you how excited I was. I had the biggest grin under my helmet and I was giggling like a school girl who'd just been handed her first note from the cute boy in class.

I got a few more laps in and I see Jim waiting for me. I pulled over and told him I had done it. Apparently I had perma-grin, because he already knew. He motioned for me to take off and he followed me around. It was pretty cool leading him around and even though I was holding him up, I felt like I was kicking along pretty good. Except for the whoops, they didn't like me. But that's alright. I know he was right behind me as I doubled it again and it was a good feeling. Too bad the checkered flag came out and our practice was over.

When I got back to the trailer, all those guys were there and I can't even tell you how big I was smiling or exactly what I was feeling. And what was even cooler was that I could see my excitement reflected in their faces. And when Hersh walked up, oh man, the smile on his face had to be as big as the one on mine. I told you the other day Hersh how much I appreciated it, but I want to say it again. Thank you so much!

I haven't really jumped much since I've been riding again. A few things here and there, but for the most part my confidence level has been low. Sometimes it hurts my knee and sometimes it just plain scares me. Never once this weekend did I feel afraid or even feel like I was riding over my head. Maybe it was the group of guys that inspired a little more confidence in me...whatever it was, it didn't matter. I had set a goal and I accomplished it. AND... I was going home in one piece. And to top it all off, I had an absolutely incredible time doing it all! Heck, I was smiling so big..and still am.

Ya'll are an awesome group to hang out with.

Great read people, sounds like a top weekend I have a couple of questions. How much do they charge to practice at Red Bud, and how wide is the track on average, i bet it's huge

I think the gate fee was $5 and the practice fee was $25. I'd say it was at least 40' wide all the way around.

Heres a link to photos of Red Bud I took last year. The first 10 or so are of the pee wee track, pretty awesome itself. As been said, photos cant possibly do the place justice but I tried to convey the openess with the elevation changes, incredible dirt and primo layout.
Picture 111 is a shot of the Monza wall.
Picture 32 and 109 are shots of the ski jump.
Picture 39 is the finish line jump.
Picture 90 is the first turn.
Picture 92 is the top of Larocco's Leap. This guy doubled it.
Picture 115 is Carson, Shoup's son!

Gotta find another practice day in the summer and hit that up! I am looking at another trip up to Motoman's place, probably in a few weeks. I need to get my suspension setup for me. I want it to be solid and lower the radiators with a DR.D kit. It will really help the way the bike turns and lays down without feeling like you are trying so hard. The bike takes alot of effort to turn and layover in ruts. I must have put at least 5-6 hours on my bike from the MMI. Runs awsome, Jimbo rode it and im sure he knows about the turning. I liked the CRF, just had to get used to Honda again.
