Default 3-30-08 Great Day of Riding in Oklahoma.

It's quite rare for the Duncan crew to miss a weekend of riding. We were pretty scattered this weekend and it looked like it may not happen. However, rbm33 and myself were able to get out of town around 2:30 for the 30 min. drive north to Pettijohn's. 85 degrees, partly cloudy, and just the right amount of wind. It was pretty humid all night, foggy this morning, and the track still held a fair amount of moisture. I'd say we spent a little more time in the trees than on the track but I definitely got my MX fix in. It was a pretty nice bonus that it was just the two of us. rbm rides the Expert class and has lots of knowledge and advice to pass on. We hit the trees with certain goals in mind and would stop and talk about what we had done and what we should do differently. He has helped me pick up my pace significantly in the trees and I can tell it's paying off on the track as well.
We worked on this one nasty little turn that is hard to describe. Steep uphill, cross-rutted, tree roots, just tough to carry a ton of speed through. Sometimes you look like this.....

Sometimes you look like this....(trying to get up before the photographer sees you)

And here's rbm nailing it like the Expert rider that he is. He was going much faster in this pic than it looks. I had the burst on but the next shot just showed a rear fender. Cheap camera.

I made sure I got my laps in on the MX track and he took a ton of pics of me. He actually made me look like I knew what I was doing in a few of them. Here's a couple of sequences over a couple of fun jumps.

I have no clue why the track wasn't crowded but we only had about three other bikes out there and one quad. Eric8 was just leaving when we got there so we talked him into staying a bit longer for a few laps. Blake119 made a short appearance for some conditioning. It was a perfect spring afternoon and we spent three hours riding HARD. I pushed it in the trees so hard that I crashed 3, maybe 4 times. Broke a brake lever. Replaced it and kept riding. My right shoulder is sore but all is good. Gotta thank rbm33 for the tutoring.

It was a great day for riding. While I was at home watching the NASCAR race, Mark and Trey went riding at a friends house. It is nothing too fancy but great practice for Trey since there is alot of sand.

I've ridden past that ladder a thousand times and never saw it!

I worked on my scrub today, E. I swear I was dragging my footpeg over this one particular jump but rbm just never caught it at the right time.

Actually that's the best I could do. I thought I had that baby pancaked!

Cool report, I enjoyed the pics! You guys are spoilt for tracks over there! And not having it crowded would have been a real bonus!

geez, i havent crashed in the last 6 or 7 rides then i had to crash when jedi had the camera out!! i wish the picture showed the tree root that runs across the track just as you enter the turn.

it was a great day of riding, not to dry and not to wet and just enough wind to keep you cool and the dust off the trails.

My condolences. I've got a little room to spare if you can afford the gas to get here during the winter months.

Those are awesome. I always look forward to reading your write-ups and seeing the pictures.

Keep sharing. You're looking pretty good out there (not that you ever weren't though).

You might want to think about buying a used bike from these guys,,ridden 200 days a year! vet ridden only.

There was only three others there because they didnt tell the rest of us about riding.!!!!! They are getting x-tra practice to get ready for us next time.
