Dude, Jim's track is insane fun and has big jumps to back it up. I will be back for sure! I met so many cool people, I did meet you Jedi. I was looking for the engine ice in the back of my truck for your radiator. Well anyways, I met Motoman, Doc and Bigtree on friday and rode with them for most of the day. It was a blast! Really enjoyed railing a corner again after getting hurt recently. The shoulder feels great now, so I gotta ride more now! It was a pleasure to meet everyone at MMI and thanks for the Vitamin water and tunes. Way cool, had fun and rode an awesome track and met really good people. Im hitting podium 1 again very soon. Thanks!

I don't even know where to start. We put the 2,147 miles on Jedi's Yukon and the trusty 'ol blue Ford got another 746 miles getting from here to his place. That's a lot of miles for just a couple days of riding. I do have to say though, it was most definitely worth it.

So far, I've made every MMI and for quite a while, it didn't look like I'd be able to attend this year. There is just lots going on and I figured it'd be one of those things I'd have do my best to make but without pushing too much. When it seemed like things were really falling into place, I was stoked, but didn't want to get too excited until about this time last week. I'm just super glad everything worked out.

Like Jedi, I had goals set for myself. Mine were a little simpler than his though, no 90' table for me. Although, after he hit it, I was seriously considering it. Really though, I wanted to get the new table-table and work on my corners at the facility. With the wind on Saturday, working on corners seemed like the only thing I was going to get done, thankfully it died down a bit later in the day. I asked Shoup and Hersh what gear I needed to be in and pretty much made up my mind I was going to get it done. Motoman had fallen in behind me and I think I may have surprised him a bit when I didn't check up. But like I said in my other post, those guys told me what I needed to do and I figured they were right. Sure 'nuff, they were.

It's always a cool feeling when you attain your goals. I worked on my corners as well during the day and was really feeling pretty good by the end of the day.

Jim's track has come a long way in the three years I've been there. I can't imagine how much time and effort they've put into make everything safer. I'm serious, I know it's been a labor of love for those guys and I really just want to make sure ya'll know how much I appreciate it. I know I'm only up there once a year, but man, if I lived closer, I'd be over all the time! It's a workout, all the jumps are ginormous, but safe. And the track just flows extremely well.

Ok...enough rambling about what I did.

ccnut and yznut... ya'll are awesome. Like the others, I knew you were out of your element, but you still went out and put a bunch of laps in. I could see you getting a little more comfortable each time out and it was really cool to watch the progression. Jerry, I sure enjoyed riding with you. You and your brother are both very cool, down-to-earth people and that is a quality I really appreciate. Thank you for making the trip and I was so stoked to see you at Red Bud on Sunday morning! I sure hope ya'll make it down for the GMB.

Sikspak, it looked like you were feeling pretty good coming off that injury. I'm sorry I didn't get to say goodbye when you took off on Saturday. I enjoyed meeting you though and hanging out.

Whitey, man, I didn't even know that was you until you were pulling out of the driveway. I am so sorry for not introducing myself. I saw you out there riding though and you looked great for your first time on a track with that bike. Next time, I'll introduce myself, I promise.

As for the rest of the Michiana crew... I already said it. Ya'll are great. I got to chase Doc around for a few laps and really had a blast doing it. I followed him over a table I hadn't cleared before and might not have otherwise, so thank you. Jim... thanks for pushing me in the corners. I really do think it helped. I have to say though, showing you a wheel before the stepdown was pretty freakin' cool and I know you couldn't see it, but I had a big 'ol grin on my face! Shoup, you were looking great out there. I know it looks like you've definitely picked up some speed since last year. And Hersh... dude, seriously, watching you size up the K-table-table section was like watching an artist at work. It was so cool to see the little steps you took and then watch you bust it out. And Randy, sorry about the clutch troubles and next time, move the sprinkler a little bit more often.

I guess that's enough for now. It's quiet in the house and I have to decide if I'm going to look through my pics or take a nap first. I'm sorry, but you'll have to read another long-winded post from me about Red Bud later on. Oh and Doc, as for my impression of Red Bud, I have two words... FREAKIN AWESOME!

Char,

I know you were smiling when you showed me your front wheel, heck I know I was. I gotta tell the whole story though from my point of view.

I was following Char around, as she said kinda pushing her thru some corners, and we came to the bowl turn before the downhill triple, I basically just out braked her and came in on the outside, as I was exiting the apex of the corner and picking my line on the triple, I see a white front fender come in on me! I had to move over a little, and ended up not able to hit the triple because of the slop before it. Trust me Gurl...you weren't the only one with a dirt smile inside your helmet.

I know I said it before, but it's really hard to put this last weekend into words that describe it......it was just AWESOME.

Bench racing took up a huge part of our drive home. Char brought up that "wheel showing" more than once. She is awesome.

I am sure she did, the smile on my face was genuine when she did it, I was proud of her. The only thing that would have made it better is if she would have ran me high and stole my line.

Jedi’s version of the monster table.

As already stated, I had maintenance issues Saturday. It started out small and seemingly insignificant. But before it was over, I pulled the skid plate, the clutch basket, and even had to work out a broken bolt with an EZ out. Changed the oil of course. I just kept plugging away until the 613 was 100% for Red Bud on Sunday. I didn’t really get to spend the time on MotoMan’s track to get comfortable with all the jumps and memorize what was next. However, I LOVE the layout of his track. Especially the new section down by the water with the big sweeper up by the house. Once that gets worn in good it will be a fantastic section in my opinion.
The conditions were a bit windy and it had a major impact on more than one of the jumps out there. The big table in the back looked pretty doable but the wind made me look stupid.(more than I do on my own) I also got squirrelly on the step up and barely saved it. One of the few jumps the wind seemed to have zero impact on was the big table. The day was winding down and I was tired of wrenching. In between wrenching, I had bump started my bike for a few laps. By this time I had ridden enough laps to rid myself of the arm pump and size up the jump faces and the wind. Shoup rides a 250F so I asked him about the monster table. “Come out of the corner in third and pin it. Just hold it on”, he said. Simple enough, I’m up for it. I think there was a fair amount of doubt among the small crowd gathering but I didn’t really notice them. I had tunnel vision. I made a couple of runs through the sandy corner just to make sure I could rail it in third. Time to go for it. As you guys know, when your adrenaline is pumping you can think of a million things in 3 seconds. Here I am on the 613 screaming toward a huge jump face with nothing but sky on the other side. In those 3 seconds I thought, “Holy crap, I’m about to hit the rev limiter! Shoup is lying to me! His bike is geared different than mine! I’m gonna flat land way past the backside!” and all because I was accelerating WAY faster and more aggressively than my brain could digest. Yep, I backed off a tad.
DOH!!! Came up short. Nope, Shoup wasn’t lying. Time to try again. I think I blew the corner a time or two but then I had a good corner and pinned it. I knew I was about to hit the rev limiter but just held it on. I was standing on the pegs as the suspension compressed and I felt the bike and myself get launched out of a cannon. That’s the best way I can describe it. KABOOM!!!!! I have no idea how high I was but the little crowd watching me looked like ants. Just kidding, but they weren’t full size. I saw the landing and knew I had nailed it. As smooth as it was, I still didn’t even think about making the corner for the step up. Like I said, tunnel vision. And mission accomplished. It was such a rush I had to go back and hit it a few more times. I have relived that whole sequence over and over and it hasn’t gotten old yet. I know you all know what I mean.
I wish I had been able to ride MotoMan’s track all day and get a good feel for my rhythm around the entire course but I just took what I could. Dirt biking and maintenance go hand in hand so you just deal with it. However, I knew I was good for Red Bud on Sunday. And that’s another story on the way.

Great description Jedi! I missed the jumps but I wouldve paid a million bucks to see the smile on your face after you landed it. had you ridden instead of wrenched that day, youd be hitting everything, without a doubt.

Char I'll take the blame for lack of introductions. As far as looking good...that may have something to do with the fact that I pulled the tags of those riding pants before heading out that morning. LOL

I'll remember that, bro. It's just that "wide open" and "48 years old" don't go together all that often.
