| I am contemplating heading out to one of these events later this year. Nothing is firm right now. MMI or GMB? MMI - tentatively set for 9/5 - 9/7. Locations - (? somewhere in Indiana and Michigan from what I gather) GMB - First week in October. Location - somewhere in Texas. This is all I know right now. Edumacate me... Can someone briefly sum up these two events for me - including locations, dates and brief opinions on each. If you have been to both but could only do one, which would it be? Motoman - thanks for all the PMs. I gather that you are suggesting that I do the GMB and then try to hit your deal next spring. I will likely be looking for travel partners so if you are in between VA and wherever these places are, I can swing in and pick you up or whatever. I can haul up to six bikes and I will be bringing at least 2 - my favorite 250 2-strokes. Elkolm - you are planning on riding one of these, right? Which? Do you know yet? Any opinions, advice, comments or councelling are welcome. Scott |

GMB, without a doubt. It takes place at Splendora, which is E/NE of Houston. The GMB is a very special event, a time to gather and honor the memories of those who rode. It's a time to meet up with people you might only meet once in your life, a time to put faces with names. There's nothing that compares to the sobering moment when Mr Berg reads "The List", or standing by Garrett's monument at the tree. There's just something special about that track and you have to be there to experience it. Not only that, the people, the people are what make it so great. I could go on and on... It's a special deal. Heck, I used to travel all the way from Alaska to attend and believe me, it was worth it. There's something to be said for meeting Mr Berg and everyone. It just might change your perspective on some things. Like I said, it's a very sobering experience. You should go through and browse the GMB forums, look back at some of the threads that people started after attending. BTW, the date for this year's GMB should be October 3 & 4. But Mr Pringle will have to confirm that. Of course, JMO. |

| Having attended both I can tell you to make sure to attend a GMB event. MMI is absolutely a blast, but GMB has that something special. Kinda like attending the Motocross of Nations was for me a few years back. It's that type of event that leaves a Man changed. It's far, but it's worth attending. |

I travel a lot up and down the east coast but my travels are usually limited to about 16 hour trips. We go to Daytona, Atlanta, Ohio and Pennsylvania each and every year, Michigan some years and I fly to Colorado almost every year. Budd's Creek is a given...this year will be my 16th or 17th straight Budds National but might be the first in a LONG time that I do not race the ametuer events. This year my road trip buddies are all whimping out. Anyone else on the east coast (or along the way) want to consider going to the GMB this fall? Like I said - I can haul 6 bikes and gear or would consider other options. If I drive, we are looking at around $800 in gas plus hotel(s). I would drive straight through if needed - I am used to long drives. We would have to get accomodations once there, too. All plans at this point are very tentative but it doesn't hurt to see what happens. I can not commit at this point. Scott |
