I thought the environterrorists had shut that one down, too. I always dreamed of runnin' that but I'm on the wrong coast. Glad to hear it's still on.

IIRC, the event that got shut down was the original Elsinore GP. There was a several year lapse and then it restarted a couple years back.

And no VAL, I'm way to out of shape right now to do a GP!!

A Grand Prix is over a much larger course than a MX race. In the Elsinore this year. it starts out a at the Storm stadium and then follows the finger of the lake, up through some streets then into the hills by the 15 and back down to the stadium. I think one lap is 7.2 miles. There are check points to make sure your not cutting corners plus you have to have a transponder so that they can score you.
I really wanted to take my son this year and ride the 50+ and maybe the Harvey Mushman 100 but on a recent dual sport ride up in Kernville I ruptured a disk in my back and screwed up my already degenerative hip. So Im officially an old gimp.

By the way, if you decide to do the GP know that as the races go on and into the second day, the course can get really knarley. Peg high ruts, and the woops get insane.

This was the way it was back in the early 70s (my heyday) (Watching it gives me a tear, things were so much simpler then)

Oh and they do it different now, they have classes now so everyone doesn't go at the same time

Its all for fun.

I think they run 30 minute races except for the Mushman that is purely distance. So you just ride the best you can for 30 minutes and see where you are. You really are racing the course anyways because depending on how many riders there are in your division you could be starting 5 minutes behind the first group. At least that the way it was a few years back at the Adelanto GP.

After watching that vid clip and buying an inversion table........ if I can get this bod back in some sort of order, I'm going...... It just hurts to even walk right now

Duran, you should definitely give it a whirl. I did the Adelanto GP back in '93 and '94 and it was an absolute blast. Back then they'd let you go by classes, the entire class at once. I raced a kwad (before I learned to balance) and they let about 60 novice quads go at one time. We started on the street and worked our way through city streets, off-road and a small mx course with a big water jump. I think then the loop was about 10 miles. Great, great fun.

Char,
That water jump is still going strong. Here is a pic of my NO3 boy, Drew at the Adelanto GP back in 2006 at the water jump. You could either jump the water hole or go through a section of woops that were huge. The next lap he got out of shape on the jump and was thrown like a rag doll. Knock unconscious and had to have is his head scanned. Went back to ride in another division the next day.
His division was so big they broke it up into three chunks of riders. They took off down a side street and then hit dirt.
