I really like my pumpkin, but I'm gonna get some red in my garage too this Nov. My question for 'yal is... Which one for my 5 year old racerboy; KTM Pro Jr 50 Cobra Polini Husquavara Lem He has K-dub's form already, leg out tilted foot. Since he had mods done to his PW 50 he won every race.

get the KTM, or the cobra. both are really fast. or get a XR 50 and dump $10k in it and let him run in the 80 class

git the KTM, so he can start out on a bike as fast as 80s

I vote Katoom too. I love those little rides. Don't know much about them, but they sure look cool.

a local kid here was full sponsored by polini and two years ago not only won loretta's but set the course record (he was on his pw then). he has just switched to cobra and likes it much better. the polini has a little better motor, but the cobra handles so much better. his boy (cooper webb) is much faster on the cobra. also cobra has much better support program.

As YP said, keep in mind the support program. Make sure you have a good dealer, parts and support in your area or your going to be waiting alot for shipping. The high end bikes require a lot of work from what I can tell. Only one of my children ride and its an XR50 and little maintenance, but then again its not the fastest bike out there either.

My son (7) has been riding for 2 years now. I started him out on the XR50 and the only good thing that came from that was the resale of the bike...everybody wants em...but for training and realistic riding the suspension on the XR50 is terrible. I go to alot of tracks and hear alot of comments about the minibikes...The cobra's are extremely high maintenance and the parts are very high. The are an extreme machine...I would doubt your kid could even handle the machine at 5 years old. Stay away from these bikes: LEM PW50 Cobra 1998 or older KTM 50's The KTM 50 JR is more his power. They have awsome acceleration, braking, and suspension. The only drawback is the initial cost...and repair parts are somewhat expensive too. My son went to a KX60 and now to a KTM65SX. I bought the KTM used and that's what I recommend to you....buy a 1 year old Jr for your kid cause that bike will be in the dirt more than the tires...I promise...therefore save yourself the mental anquish of seeing a brand new bike being trashed in it's first few weeks. If you decide to go KTM get signed into this forum...they have parts and a forumn to assist you. I use it all the time. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] And please whatever you decide on....make sure the kid has all the proper gear to include a NECK Collar. Those little ones just can't hold a helmet up when they bottom hard. You won't regret it.

The Ktm 50 is just as high maint. as the other 50"s! None of them are bullett proof without the proper maint.!

Just recently picked up an ATK 50, made by D.B. Motors, About twice the suspension as the XR's, check it out on the ATK website. I bought for my daughter for X-mas. I'll try to give you some info after she spends a little time on it. Greg

Kirtwell makes some good points. But what I like about the PW Cobra o/i, is it has an externally adjustable clutch that you can use to "tone" it down somewhat. It is actually the fastest, best suspended, best assembled of the lot. REV motorcycles just purchased Cobra and I look for even better things from the company...and it is american made. My choice...The Cobra PW o/i

Well, we are about 5 rides into the ATK now and everything is going well. I think it is the right bike for her, for now. She has picked it up alot quicker than i would have imagined. Will probably be ready for a new bike next year. I think this is probably the best beginners bike we could have picked. Not too much power, but enough to keep it interesting for now. Suspension works great, easy to start. Check the D.B. Motors website, it has more info than the ATK site, I believe they are the same company that makes some of the KTM minis. Good luck with whatever you get. Greg

i say ktm just because every other bike theyve made is awesome.....i rode a 2003 KTM 65 and that lil bike is *****in'!! its faster than my 02 KX85!! and i didnt notice any problems with that bike an i would imagine that all the entry bikes they make are closely related

I started my son out on a honda cr60, 1984 model. His skateboard had better suspesnion. But that was due to technology. I looked at a lot of bikes and decided on the ktm65sx. Good suspension, good power delivery and ok for a play-bike for him. He wants to race next year so the bike will hopefully double as a race bike. With new reeds and a fatty pipe, the bike has a lot of punch. And it's a little cheaper than the others mentioned.
