Ok I took my new (to me) 03 KTM 250sx out yesterday for the first time.. Everything seemed fine, ran great, I do mostly trail with some track practice.. no racing anymore, the rear suspension seemed too stiff,, I sofened the low speed compression.. road pretty good.. Frist time I rolled on the throttle in 2nd there was more hit than I expected and the front end came up.. I adjusted the PV to soften it.. not too bad after that. Never did go on the track, just stayed in the trails. The only issue was the back brake caliper was stuck from sitting.. tapped on it a few times and it started working.. BUT today there is a small puddle of oil under the bike.. It seems to be dripping from behind the front sprocket.. I havn't taken it off to check for sure yet.. But there was no puddle at the dealer and it sat in my garage for three days before riding with no dripping. I know sometimes the fork seals will get sand in them and drip, I use the tip of a cable tie to clean them out.. Could this be the case on the counter shaft seal, or when they start leaking do they need to be replaced. And if so how much do they cost and how tough is it to do on the KTM..

Re: oil drip Hi, I'd feel pretty certain some grit got under the shaft seal. Worth cleaning to see. BTW, congrats on the 250SX, now let me know where a new 250SX or 300XC is in stock Bill

Maybe spooge? I always get spooge after riding my bike but the PV breather hose is in the front of my bike. I don't know how yours is routed. Check the shaft seal like Flordia said, also. That's probably it right there.

I got a tip from another forum about that if there is not enough pressure from the sprocket on the counter shaft O-ring it can leak and that some after market sprockets are a little thinner.. Seeing as the sprockets and chain were put on new by the shop just before I bought the bike I decided to check.. Well the good news is it is a KTM front sprocket,, the bad news is the C clip that holds the front sprocket on isn't there.. So appearently there is NO pressure against the O-ring. So tomorrow I'll be back at Atlantic Motosports, Jacksonville Beach to get a C clip. On a side note, I know he has several 06s in stock including a 200 xc and 200 xc-w, but not sure what else,, I'll post again tomorrow and let you know. |

got a clip, went ahead and switched to a 13 tooth front sprocket while I was at it and I'm set to go again.. Florida 393.. The shop here in Jacksonville has new, a 200 XC-w, 2 200 XCs, a 400 EXC, a 250XC-w, and a left over 05 450 SX. If I could have afforded new I would have bought the 250XC-w..

Hi, Can you tell me the shop's name? I'll email them for a quote and see what they can get. I'd drive to Jax to see family (my dad was born in Jax Beach in '27 and I have cousins there and Ponte Vedra.) Maybe a lunch and bench racing session would be in order if I get over there. I'm buying, you up for it? Bill
