Smile My new toy.

Hey all.

I picked up my new bike last Saturday.

It's a 2006 KTM 300 EXC.
So far I love everything about it! I have'nt really opened her up yet because I need to spend some time breaking-in the motor.
I've just about covered 40 miles, so 260 more and it'll be fully run-in (apparently).. I'll have some fun then!

The bike is street legal, so right now that's how it is set up, it comes from the dealerships in road form with a small (tiny) rear sprocket, the guy I delt with says it is best to keep the bike this way during break-in.

I love new bikes!!!
I got So many spares and parts with this KTM.
. decal set including fork guard decals, upper fork decals, #plate backrounds, and a few other stickers.
.Full set of plastics! . including an MX front plate, an enduro rear plate-holder + brake light. and a few other things.
. This little "welcome to the family" KTM suitcase with the owners manual, all the ducuments and a few magazines inside.
. a free bottle of 2 stroke
. And some more free stuff but I'll quit boring you now and show you some pics...

That big rear reg-plate holder is coming straight off! lol

Sorry if the pics are'nt that clear. I need a new camera :

That's street legal? That is awesome.
I wasn't aware of a spares kit with a new bike. Is that common with new bikes, or is that a KTM thing? I've never bought a brand new bike before. Maybe someday.

Great looking bike!

Riders view

As I say, I have'nt really opened the throttle up yet, but Man! this bike is fast! you can tell it's fast just by cruising through the gears smoothly, it has So much torque, I cant wait to get the 300 miles over and done with so I can give it some!

I'll post a big review on how she performs, once I find out.
I have'nt even took it off road yet.

Shouldnt take 300 miles to break it in. As with any two stroke, one full tank of gas should do it.

Gotta love the hydraulic clutch. Sweet ride!

Hey Dean!

Nice bike man...gota love new rides! yeah 300 miles isnt realy needed,i'd use the fairly hard break in technique but i aint gona try and force that on you as it causes a whole heap of arguments .

and dont forget to use the spares kit..dont be the guy selling the bike and says 'yeah it even still has the full spares kit' :

haha well awesome bike man...some SM wheels maybe?

Thanks guys,

Ben, I thought they only use the hard break in on the thumpers??

The dealer told me I need to break it in for at least 300 miles :
I myself would'nt know, this is my first new bike, but if you guys are saying it only takes like 1 or 2 tanks of juice then Sweet! that's actually good news.

Oh, and Ben about the graphics, I like um', I might get them when I can afford it.
I will hopefully have enough cash to buy the SM wheels in around 3 months maybe, right now I'm pretty broke!

It's a 2 stroke. After a few good warm ups, ride it like you stole it.

Awesome bike, mang!

One question, though. I looked on the KTM site and it looks like they don't sale the 300MXC, or EXC here. Why is that?

I would love to have a 300MXC.

Thanks,

I'm pretty sure the MXC is "USA only". Where do you live?

The 200EXC/250 and 300, I thought you could buy in any country, but apparently KTM dropped the EXC line everywhere outside Europe. They now sell an XC-W over in the US or something? instead of the EXC?

There are a lot of 300 EXC bikes here. One of the most popular off road and Enduro bikes made! i would love to have one of those or one of the new 250 MXC I read about in Dirt Rider magazine. Looks and sounds like a sweet bike!

I think the only difference between the XC and the EXC is that the XC is not road legal, it has no lighting or any sort of road-needed parts, indicators, speedo, ect...
The exhaust design is different
And the graphics are different.

Interesting...
Over hear, to race Enduro, lights are required, aswell as a rear reg-plate holder I think.

I have a thread over on KTMtalk, and people in the US seem to like the Euro version, one guy is even thinking of importing one after seing my pics.

I like that 300XC!

I wonder how much it would cost to import the EXC?

If you go to the KTM site, it has the 300 listed as (not USA).

What's the purpose of having a MXC if the SX is the competition model?

I can see why the EXC is so popular, but I must be missing something with the MXC's?

I think the MXC is for the trail rider, that likes to do a bit of MX now and then.

Also I think some riders prefer the close-ratio (MX like) transmission for racing Enduro/hare scrambles ect.. and I can imagine it would be good especially for tight woods riding.

I know what your saying though, "what is the defference between say the 250 SX and the 250 MXC?" hmm.. larger gas tank, bigger rads maybe, I dont really know
