Default KTM Demo Day: 2008 Lineup

Hey guys
so I made my way to Gopher Dunes (ON) this summer and decided to attend the KTM Demo Day. I decided I would add a quick review on each bike that I tried out. I have only been riding since May this year. Feel free to comment on any experiences you had. Here is a video that can show bits and pieces of the sandy track

YouTube - CMRC Gopher Dunes

Overall:

Best 2 stroke (200 XC)
- I found this bike was the best for "my liking". It was more pull than the 144sx yet less than the 250sx and 300XC
-Nice smooth hard hit
- Had enough power for me. Felt comfortable holding it Wide open
- Suspension was not setup properly for track was the only problem

Funnest 2 stroke (300XC)
- ALOT of power under that bike
-You literally have the power Whenever you need it
- It was too much for me. But I had my fun on it
- Very good "Race ready" bike. Had alot of snappy 2 stroke power

Best 4 stroke (505)
-Very torquey
-Smooth roll on power
- Nice for trail riding. Can coast in 3rd gear and just "putt" along if you wanted to

Worst 2 stroke (250sx)
-Powerband hit very hard and quick
- Uncomfortable. Felt very snappy
- Very different style

Hardest to ride 4 stroke ( 450sx-f)
-This bike did very little spinning
-Very torquey. Caught Alot of traction
-Felt hungry. Like it wanted you to go through All the gears
-Never ending Pull

Let downs of the day (250sx-f and 144sx)
-250sx-f only lasted 10 rides. Then it "blew" up
-144sx had "prototype reed valves". therefore gave VERY poor performance
(The second I stepped off that bike. I knew I was 2x faster on my 125)

THX for reading. Take care. Anyone have any different opinions?
I would think so, considering I only have less than a year of experience.

Awesome report! One of the guys from Texas that rode at the ISDE this year rented a 300XC-W (electric start) and absolutely loved it! He said the 250's would bog a little in the deep sand and the four strokes would wallow pretty bad but the 300 was a tractor and the best all around bike. Now if it just had EFI, I would be going to the bank for a loan!

I have to agree, great report.

Just for my info, what was so hard about the 450sx-f?

Sounds like it's a great bike from your description.

Great report. Thanks for posting up your thoughts on the bikes.
I seriously doubt I will ever own a KTM but it's cool to read a first-hand opinion.
The vid was excellent!

I found what made this bike so hard was that It had so much traction and so much pull, that I had to grab the tank extra hard with my knees to hold on. Otherwise I would start using to much arm and get arm pump fairly easily. I this was the first bike I rode to start off the day, so I might have needed to get warmed up!

(PS- All bikes I rode that day, I went WOT around corners and down straights!...but not off the jumps. Need to improve on the jumping)

Thanks alot Everyone!

I did the demo days a few weeks ago and I have to agree with you. The 450 just didn't suit me at all. I found the low end way too violent in the tighter stuff and the bike just felt "weird" in the suspension department. In the soft stuff I felt like a squirrel with the bars wandering all over the place.

I LOVED THE 300! I didn't get the chance to sign up for it at first but while the KTM guys were loading up one of them rolled the 300 up to me and said "ride it".
I took it on a 5 minute ride and loved everything about it. For a 2 stroke it lugged more like a 4-stroke. I had no gripes about it at all.

Nice report

Not a good thing having the 250sxf blow up on it's presentation day!

That track looks nice and sandy. Reminds me of Sandalee Canadian round I watched.

Yeah, that really blows. I had no idea those bikes were time bombs.
