If they recommend it, you better do it. They might have a different material spec that is stronger yet more flexible. The flexibility helps redue the lose of throttle repsonse while the leftover stock reed adds tension to keep it from flexing to far/fast.

I'm not positive...but I think it was like that before he bought it?...Not sure though....I think someone else just made it fit like that.
